Daytona SportBike sensation Martin Cardenas claimed his sixth victory of the 2009 AMA Pro Road Racing season today at Road America following a classic duel with a revitalized Jake Zemke.

The Colombian took control of the race early, breaking the draft and opening a full second advantage by lap 3 but found himself tracked down the Erion Honda ace, who fought up from several seconds back and ninth in the order. The Californian's charge, which included clicking off multiple laps around a second quicker than any other man could manage during the entire contest, saw him arrive on the Team M4 runner's tail by lap 6 of 13.

Zemke sailed by into the lead on the opening of the following lap, but Cardenas once again displayed his uncanny ability to stalk his prey, upping his pace and sticking with the rapid former
dirt tracker who was beginning to encounter tire difficulties brought about by the green track.

Cardenas waited until the final lap to make his move, ducking up the inside on the entry of Turn 1. Zemke struck back in 5 only to see Cardenas budge by to reclaim the lead through in the kink, again to lose the spot following a big slide on exit. The two barged into the final several corners almost side-by-side with Zemke holding onto a slight advantage coming on the front straight after protecting the inside into the final corner. The two took divergent lines running up the hill, with Cardenas holding steady following a great launch off exit and Zemke weaving to the right hoping to break the draft. The Suzuki pilot's drive proved superior and he surged past to claim the checkered flag first by 0.104 seconds.
