In the world of 'instant media' the latest breaking news seems to come more and more from the streams of social media -- particularly Twitter and Facebook -- rather than press releases or reports on the more traditional avenues for news content both online and on television.

Such is the case with James Stewart’s 'official' announcement that he will be back in action at RedBud on Saturday after being sidelined for the Budds Creek round. On Stewart’s Twitter feed (@js7) this past Monday, the 2008 AMA Pro Motocross Champion said, “Just finished up eating dinner with the team. They came down to FL to hang out before WE RACE AT RED BUD THIS WEEKEND. Gonna have some fun.”

Since his heartbreaking incident at Thunder Valley in early June, Stewart has had an up-and-down go of it. This news was probably a welcome announcement to most inside the industry.

Following a three-year hiatus from outdoor motocross competition (save for a cameo appearance at Unadilla in 2010) Stewart came back full-time for 2012, ready to prove the world that he hasn’t lost the raw speed and tenacity that earned him unquestioned “Fastest Man on the Planet” status. Moreover, he also wanted to give his new Factory Suzuki a whirl in competition before embarking on his formal contract with the team next season.

Right out of the gate, Stewart was immediately back to his ways of old, doing things on the track that only he could and kicking off his return by sweeping all four motos through the first two rounds. The new relationship with Suzuki was fast proving to be a strong one and even sparked early whispers of the possibility of replicating his history-making perfect 2008 season.

While Stewart looked nearly flawless on the track, Ryan Dungey was doing everything he could just to keep Stewart honest. The former training partners put on a show for the fans at the second round in Texas and looked to be setting the stage for an epic summer-long battle at the front of the field. It was one rider pushing the other to be at his best each and every lap, continually finding more in the tank in search of that slightest edge. It really was motocross racing at its finest featuring two of the most impressive riders to ever line up on a starting gate.
