AMA MX: Foreign Stars Lead Into RedBud Independence Day Showdown

PROGRAMMING NOTE: The 250 Class race from RedBud will air on SPEED on Saturday, July 11 at 9:00pm ET.

RedBud is among the most legendary, beautiful, and well-designed tracks on the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship tour. It also traditionally falls on Independence Day Weekend.

This year, it falls directly on Independence Day.

The irony is that, for the first time in the history of our sport, both championships are being led by non-Americans. Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Chad Reed, from
Australia, leads the 450cc championship, and perhaps more appropriately, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Christophe Pourcel, from France, leads the 250cc class.

Well, historically speaking, it’s true that without the French, America likely would not have succeeded in winning its independence from England, and likewise the Louisiana Purchase was made by Thomas Jefferson to acquire the land from the French. Last weekend’s Colorado National took place on land bought in that historic deal.
