The 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, is back in action tomorrow, reaching the halfway point of the season with the sixth round from iconic RedBud. The Red Bull RedBud National, from Buchanan, Mich., has become an Independence Day Weekend tradition for the sport and the competition will be highlighted by the second consecutive round to be broadcast on network television on NBC.
At the championship's previous stop from Budds Creek MX Park in Maryland, Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey kept his recent string of dominance going in the 450 Class by capturing his third straight overall victory and extending his points lead. Additionally, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Blake Baggett became just the second repeat winner in the 250 Class, also adding to his advantage atop the standings.

Dungey swept the motos for the third consecutive weekend at Budds Creek and now enjoys an impressive six-moto winning streak. Since breaking into the win column a few rounds ago, Dungey has refused to relinquish his grip on the premier class and possesses a points lead of over two motos ahead of the field. His championship advantage now sits at 54 points as he heads into RedBud, looking for his second win at the facility in three years.

Mike Alessi continued his impressive start to the 2012 season at Budds Creek, securing his fourth overall podium finish of the season. The veteran rider's 4-3 moto scores helped him secure third place and further solidified his second-place position in the standings behind Dungey. Moreover, Alessi continues to keep Dungey honest at the front of the field, leading three laps in the second moto.

Although he just missed out finishing on the overall podium at Budds Creek, Jake Weimer still posted a strong effort, finishing fourth. Weimer tied with Alessi for third overall in points, but finished off the podium by virtue of the second-moto tiebreaker. The Idaho native still occupies third in the championship and will look for a breakthrough effort at RedBud, where he won as a 250 Class competitor back during the 2009 season.
"The first moto at Budds Creek went good and I was able to get on the podium," said Weimer. "The second moto ended up being pretty tough. I didn't get the best start and got caught in the middle of the pack. While I was trying to work through the pack on the first lap I got drilled in the chest with a rock. It really knocked the wind out of me and I almost pulled off the track, but I decided to keep racing. It wasn't the best day, but ending with fourth overall was alright. I'm looking forward to RedBud, it's my favorite track on the series. It has a lot of really big jumps so it should be a lot of fun."
After suffering a broken hand during practice at the opening round of the season at Hangtown, Tyla Rattray will return at RedBud to make his official debut for the Monster Energy Kawasaki team. The weeks of recovery and time on the bike had Rattray ready to do battle with the top riders in the premier class and he's excited to see where he stands on the big bike.
"I can't wait to get back on the track," said Rattray. "Being on the couch and watching the last few races from home was tough. After breaking my hand at Hangtown, I had to get surgery done on my hand. They installed a plate and some screws and sewed me back up. While I couldn't ride, I continued to working hard on keeping up the physical side of the training. Since the doctor cleared me to ride I have been at Ryan (Villopoto's) ranch in Florida training on my KX450F. I'm really looking forward to returning to the series at RedBud, it's one of my favorite tracks."
