Honda Red Bull Racing’s Davi Millsaps recorded his second podium finish of the year last Sunday at Mt. Morris. At only 20 years of age, he’s among motocross racing’s elite athletes, and he’s also a really funny guy -- in a dry humor sort of way. He’s currently engaged to former Miss Supercross Brittney George, and rumor has it that he may be switching teams next year -- possibly to Joe Gibbs Racing Yamaha (although we emphasize that it’s just a rumor at this point).
We sat down with Davi to banter about everything from his team next year and shaving his legs, to getting married, and the dreaded 'monkey butt' after his podium finish last Sunday.
SpeedTV.com: What team are you riding for next year?
Davi Millsaps: (Silence).
I’ve got all day.
I don’t. I’m going to go eat dinner.
You said something about being worn out from supercross in the press conference. When did that hit you?
I said my body's worn out. The supercross series burnt my body out. It hit me the first lap of the first moto at Glen Helen... No, I don’t know, it’s just like you work hard all year long and you just don’t get any breaks. This is our fourth weekend off in 21 races, and I’m glad to have it off, but I just need to focus on some stuff with my body and get it right, and then hopefully come back stronger.
You said something about monkey butt in the PC. Shouldn’t you be used to riding motorcycles?
Oh, man, dude. I got in the shower just a little bit ago and put water on it and I almost cried. I don’t know what it is. I think I got like a blister on my butt. It’s not monkey butt, it’s like a blister. I had a hole in my underwear, and it’s in that hole that I got the blister.
This is your second podium of the year. What is it going to take to move on up to maybe second or to win one of these things?
I’ve been working really hard this past week, and it’s probably the first time that I worked really hard since the beginning of the outdoors, and I just want to keep doing that. And hopefully by the end of the season, I’ll be up there challenging Stewart for the lead, if not getting a good start and him getting a bad start and me just pinning it and hoping he doesn’t catch me.
Did your fiancé Brittney teach you how to shave your legs?
She taught me a while ago, but I still don’t do it that often because my hair’s so coarse and thick that it just gives me razor bumps, so I’m going to go home this week and wax them.
So, are you really thinking about getting married and all that?
