Now past the halfway point in the Toyota/AMA National MX Championships, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s James Stewart and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto are looking more invincible than ever. Of course, Budds Creek -- the site of round seven of the 12-round championship -- is the favorite track on the circuit for both Stewart and Villopoto.
In the 450cc class, Stewart stole the opening-moto holeshot by sweeping around the inside of the first turn after entering the corner near the tail end of the top five. From there, Stewart checked out, winning the moto by 30 seconds over teammate Timmy Ferry,
It looked as if Honda privateer Paul Carpenter -- in his first race back from injury -- would grab the holeshot to start moto two, but Stewart flew into the lead and grabbed the holeshot although he again trailed entering the first turn. And as before, Stewart quickly checked out and, despite cruising for the last lap and a half, took the win with nearly 19 seconds to spare over teammate Ferry, who actually started near the bottom of the top 10 but still found his way into second just past the halfway point.
