For former World and British Superbike champion Neil Hodgson one of the perks of racing in the States and living in Southern California is the opportunity to follow AMA Supercross and Motocross racing up close.

A motocross racer as a youngster, Hodgson has developed into a superfan of the sport, tracking the ins-and-outs of the AMA championships as closely as possible.

The Briton's promising '09 AMA American Superbike campaign took a huge hit when he was seriously injured in a motocross training accident following his runner-up finish at the Daytona season opener, so he knows all
too well the risks involved in the sport. That gives him something of a unique insight on the current outdoor season that has already claimed the series' leading two riders.

Commenting on this year's motocross action, Hodgson said, "It's unbelievable. I wish I had entered the championship it's so wide open! With (James) Stewart not doing it it made the season unpredictable and exciting and then obviously (Ryan) Villopoto looked like he was going to be the man before going out with knee surgery. And (Mike) Alessi stepped up and dominated the last two rounds and now he's out too.
