Thunder Valley MX Park – Lakewood, Colo. – June 2
Thunder Valley will host its eighth Lucas Oil Pro Motocross National.
Round 3 is the earliest Thunder Valley has even been on the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross schedule.
The mile-high altitude at Thunder Valley is a unique element of this national. It will provide an additional challenge for mechanics in making a bike perform at its peak, while riders must physically adjust to the thinner air.
Thunder Valley was the site of the first professional motocross event to ever be held under the lights, during the 2008 season. The track also hosted a night race during the 2009 season. In 2010, it was the host venue for the Motocross of Nations.
Each of veteran rider Ivan Tedesco’s inaugural 250 Class and 450 Class victories came at Thunder Valley, which he considers to be his home race. He is the only rider to win at the track in both classes.
James Stewart has started the season a perfect 4-0 in motos and is undefeated aboard the Yoshimura Suzuki. He has won 28 of the last 30 motos he’s entered, claiming the overall in 14 of his last 15 races.
Stewart now has 18 career wins in the 450 Class, placing him in a tie for fourth all time with Kent Howerton.
Stewart has led all but two laps this season.
After making history by becoming the first rider to win his professional debut back in 2010, Eli Tomac broke a 24-race winless streak last weekend.
It has been 27 races since Justin Barcia won his last 250 Class race in 2009, which was also his inaugural win.
450 Class Stats
The first Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship race was held at Thunder Valley on July 24, 2005. Ricky Carmichael won on a Suzuki.
Four different riders have won in seven races at Thunder Valley. Three of the four – Ricky Carmichael, James Stewart and Ryan Dungey – have gone back-to-back.
Ivan Tedesco is the only rider to win in both classes at Thunder Valley. Jake Weimer will look to achieve the same feat this weekend.
