AMA SBK: Boz Bros Tribute
The Bostrom brothers may be absent from the AMA Pro paddock for the first time in many years, but they made their mark in their own unique fashion before signing off.

When the AMA Pro season kicks off next week at Daytona, it will be the first time in a long time that one of the Bostrom brothers doesn’t have a regular ride.

It’s been an awesome trip for the boys. They had a lot of fun on the racetrack and made a lot of fans happy.

Since 1993, the Bostroms have been roadracing. Ben was a dirt track regular even before that.

Ben won the 1998 AMA Pro Superbike title, the 2008 Supersport championship, raced four seasons in World Superbike where he won multiple races and legions of fans. Eric took SuperTwins, Formula Xtreme, and Supersport titles, won 15 Superbike races, and was championship runner-up, finishing second to guys like Nicky Hayden and Mat Mladin, a couple of times.

More importantly, they were major stars of the tour. Their California attitude matched with their skill made them easy to like. In era with super serious and driven riders like Mladin, the Bostroms offered up a different type of personality that connected with the fans.

The Bostroms always had outside interests like mountain climbing or bicycle racing. Eric is the only rider I have ever seen bring his skateboard to the racetrack. They launched their own line of moto accessories and clothing a few years ago.

One time I was talking to Eric about his approach to racing and he was adamant about maintaining a good lifestyle outside of racing. He said it made him a better rider when it came time to put on the helmet.

When you’re in a high-pressure climate where you’re making a lot of money like the paddock was in those days, it can change you. The Boz Bros always stayed themselves.

Public image and reality can be very different, but the Bostroms’ personalities are as close to their image as anyone. They really are like that -- a couple of Space Cowboys out on an adventure. The mango farm in South America, Ben’s extreme diet consisting of stuff that look like it came from a petri dish… it was all real.
