PROGRAMMING NOTE: This weekend's AMA Pro Road Racing season finale from NOLA Motorsports Park will air on SPEED on Sunday, October 7th at 2:00pm ET and 3:00pm ET and at Midnight ET.
There hasn't been much movement on the AMA Pro silly season front heading into the last race of the year in New Orleans. As has become the norm in recent years, most moves will be decided in the offseason.
The big question right now is where will Martin Cardenas go? The Colombian, now a two-time AMA Pro Daytona SportBike champ, wants to return to the Superbike class next year.
Cardenas raced Superbike in 2011, winning in the wet at Barber, finishing fourth in points, and finishing fourth or better seven times. Not bad at all for a rookie Superbike learning year on a good machine but one without the advanced electronics of his rivals.
Cardenas has successfully raced for Team Hammer for years in America, this season in GEICO Suzuki livery. His current team would like to retain his services, ideally on a Superbike with advanced electronics. The team has done very well in DSB, winning championships with Cardenas and Danny Eslick on bikes they prepared.
But other teams are sniffing around Cardenas as well. Yoshimura Suzuki, Jordan Suzuki, and Yamaha have all given him the, "So, what are you doing next year?"
After Cardenas' future is set, it will pave the way for the other moves.
