PROGRAMMING NOTE: The AMA Pro Road Racing action from Miller Motorsports Park will air Sunday, May 27 at 6:30pm ET, and Monday, May 28 at 5:00pm ET on SPEED.

Josh Hayes furthered his dominance of AMA Pro Superbike qualifying this morning at Miller Motorsports Park, extending his '12 perfect season streak to four.

Hayes' time of 1:49.729 would have been good enough to solidly earn him a slot in World Superbike Superpole and within shouting distance of the marks set back in '06 and '07 by current MotoGP pilot Ben Spies on the more open 'Real Superbikes' of old.

Hayes' pole is the 16th of his AMA Superbike career, moving him ahead of Wayne Rainey and into sole possession of 5th on the all-time order, trailing Freddie Spencer by just one and Doug Polen by just two.

"Everything went pretty smoothly," Hayes said. "It was a relief after the morning to get a dry racetrack to ride on. The track was pretty good and clean all the way around and without the wind we were able to get back to business as usual. I'm happy; the R1 is running really well and everything seems to be clicking pretty well.

"I think tire life is probably a bit of an issue for everyone right now. At the start of the session I went out on yesterday's tires and it was tough to get up to speed. I was watching Roger (Hayden) ride away from me, and I was like, 'Man, I hope it's not like this when I get a new tire.' We got a fresh one and it was definitely worth quite a bit to us."

The Monster Energy Graves Yamaha star boasted a relatively substantial gap but wasn't miles in front of chief rival Blake Young, who circulated at 1:50.141 to qualify second and set the stage for yet another showdown between the series leading aces.

Young was a bit frustrated to see Hayes pick up another pole point, especially as he felt as if he had tapped just about as much as he possibly could in terms of his very developed GSX-R's one-lap potential. However, Hayes was on pole at MMP one year ago as well and the victory ultimately went to Young, who managed to better conserve his tires and make a last-lap escape from Hayes and then-Yosh teammate Tommy Hayden.

The Wisconsin native said, "We made some improvements compared to yesterday. I think we have a pretty good racebike and that's what matters. I'm looking forward to the race and the Yoshimura Suzuki is working good for me once again. It should be an exciting race."
