This weekend's Great Clips West Coast Moto Jam at Infineon Raceway is the first chance for AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport riders with a West Division declaration to put some more points on the board. The field of 48 pre-entered riders is still growing, with post-entry available for this class until Friday morning.
AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport West points leader and defending series champion James Rispoli (No. 1 Celtic Racing/Orient Express Racing Suzuki GSX-R600) heads to the 2.32-mile natural road course in Sonoma, Calif. with a five point lead over Elena Myers (No. 21 SuzukiScoopFans on Facebook Suzuki GSX-R600). Rispoli, who has never competed in and AMA Pro event at Infineon, has been somewhat of a Race 1 winner this season, taking home a victory in Race 1 at Daytona International Speedway in March and grabbing a non-points paying victory in Race 1 at the Triumph Big Kahuna Atlanta two weeks ago.
California-native Myers is the only active AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport rider with a win to her credit at Infineon. Her 2010 Race 1 victory here made her the first female to win a professional AMA Pro Road Racing sprint race, and the Race 2 win she claimed earlier this year at Daytona International Speedway gave her the record as the first female to win a professional motorsports event at the "World Center of Racing." Those accolades aside, Myers has put together a string of impressive finishes around the country and is guaranteed to be competitive this weekend.
2011 AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport East Division runner-up Hayden Gillim (No. 69 RoadRace Factory Yamaha YZF-R6) has transferred regions for 2012 and sits third in the points heading to California. Gillim's teammate Tomas Puerta (No. 12 RoadRace Factory/American Supercamp Yamaha YZF-R6) is one of six East Division riders on the entry list.
Fourth in the standings, Sebastiao Ferreira (No. 73 Life in Christ Race Team Yamaha YZF-R6) took home a top five result in Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport Race 2 during last year's contest. Just behind him is Travis Ohge (No. 4 Meen Motorsports/Graves Motorsports Yamaha YZF-R6), whose podium result in Race 2 at Infineon is tied for his career-best finish with the third place he garnered at Miller Motorsports Park that same year.
Rocco Horvath (No. 14 Kneedraggers.com ·Motul ·FLY Racing Yamaha YZF-R6), Charles Weaver (No. 13 Racer13.com ·Pacific Track Time Yamaha YZF-R6), Ryan Matter (No. 222 Citizens of Humanity Suzuki GSX-R600), Colter Dimick (No. 606 Gearzy Yamaha YZF-R6) and Javelin Broderick (No. 814 Dynojet Research ·Diablo Racing Yamaha YZF-R6) round out the top 10 in the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport West Division point standings.
The out-of-region Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport East Division riders that are entered include notable riders Corey Alexander (No. 5 National Guard/ Fairhills Group Suzuki GSX-R600), Stefano Mesa (No. 37 Kneedragger.com/ Galfer Yamaha YZF-R6), Jake Lewis (No. 85 Riders Discount/ Vesrah Suzuki GSX-R600), Dustin Dominguez (No. 68 Castrol/Triumph/GE Capital Triumph Daytona 675) and Zach Herrin (No. 17 Graves Motorsports Yamaha YZF-R6).
