PROGRAMMING NOTE: The AMA Pro Road Racing season opener will air back-to-back-to-back in a three-race block (Superbike Race 1, Daytona 200, Superbike Race 2) on Saturday, March 17 starting at 2:30pm ET on SPEED.

Two-time AMA champion Tommy Hayden will not race the AMA Pro Superbike class at Daytona but the eight-time Superbike race winner is still working on putting together a deal to race the series in 2012.

"I'm disappointed I won't to be racing at Daytona and that I don't have anything lined up for the rest of the year yet," said Hayden. "There were some things I could have done but none I felt would have worked out for the best and I could have competed for wins. I have some things in the works for putting together my own team, too. It could happen after Daytona or during the year, where I pick up racing the schedule at a certain point. For now, I'm waiting it out and seeing what happens."

Hayden said there has been a lot of progress but hasn't been able to complete the deal. "There's been a lot of interest over the winter. It's been down to the last step a few times but then it has stopped there. There are still meetings going on. The sponsorship side has been real supportive but I don't have every piece of the puzzle put together yet. From the equipment standpoint and the technical side, I have something I could put together very quickly that's at a similar level to what I've had the past few years. It just comes down to finding all of funding."

Hayden finished second in Superbike points in 2010 and third in 2009 and 2011.
