Josh Hayes and Blake Young can't split at MMP with only one race to be contested. But the nature of MMP means some other contenders could emerge as well.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: The AMA Pro Road Racing action from Miller Motorsports Park will air Sunday, May 27 at 6:30pm ET, and Monday, May 28 at 5:00pm ET on SPEED.
Josh Hayes and Blake Young have done the splits in 2012, claiming a win apiece at each of this year’s events. However, that trend can’t continue this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park, since there’s only one (AMA) Superbike race on the weekend slate.
Young has a slight lead in points (four) over Hayes, so the chances are that either Young will have expanded his lead going into his home race at Elkhart next weekend or Hayes will have won and tightened things up going into the track that saw him win one of his more dominant '11 victories in Sunday race last year.
One could look at these three races in seven days as the most important run in the championship so far.
Conventional wisdom gave Young the edge at Daytona and Road Atlanta and Hayes the advantage in Sonoma, but Miller and Elkhart are perhaps too close to call.
Young eeked out the win here last year after Hayes led most of the way, but Josh says his bike is better now.
The European-style track in Utah has a way of shaking things up. The elevation robs the bikes of some top end, creating a natural traction control of sorts. A rider who gets into the flowing nature can surprise, as Jake Zemke, Ben Bostrom, and J.D. Beach have done in the past -- running ahead of where you might expect, at least before a couple of them crashed.
Josh Herrin and Geoff May could do well here. Hayes certainly thinks Herrin will be fast at MMP (and Herrin agrees). Herrin first made his mark in AMA Pro at MMP, landing on the box shortly after turning 16 and being granted his professional license.
May, on the EBR without some of the sophisticated electronics, won his first AMA Pro national at Miller in 2008. The flowing, high-speed nature of the circuit suits both his style and the bike's characteristics, and even the fact that the track is found just off exit #99 is perhaps something of a good omen. If the EBR 1190RS ends up on the podium three times in a row, that would be a shocker.
Roger Hayden’s race was ruined by an electronics issue at MMP last year but he’s coming off his best result in Superbike yet with his Infineon runner-up.
The race is on Memorial Day, and chances are it will be memorable.
