Ranking the top AMA Pro Road Racing riders coming off an epic 2011 season…

10. Cameron Beaubier

Beaubier made an effortless transition to SportBike racing in 2011 and quickly made himself a podium finisher and race win contender despite being armed with somewhat outgunned machinery. Veteran Larry Pegram's electronic woes, XR1200 champ and Superbike newcomer Chris Fillmore's injury, and Garrett Gerloff's brevity all prevented them from claiming this spot, which ultimately went to Beaubier who could easily rocket up the chart in 2012.

9. Jason DiSalvo

DiSalvo bounced back from a disastrous, aborted World Supersport effort in '10 by reestablishing himself as an AMA Pro race winner, opening the season by claiming a first-ever Daytona 200 win for Ducati. The New Yorker notched up three straight victories (including a pair of dominant efforts at Infineon Raceway) and threatened to run away with the title early but his good fortune wouldn't last. Still, the fleet DiSalvo reminded everyone of his talent level in '11.

8. Danny Eslick

Danny Eslick's thrill-a-moment riding style belies his remarkably consistent results. The wide-smiling and broadsliding pilot racked up eight podiums and three victories en route to an easy Daytona SportBike crown -- his second in the class' three-year existence. And this all came after his 170mph front-end crash in the season opener. It will be interesting to see what Eslick can do on a Superbike (stay tuned).

7. Ben Bostrom

Even after all these years the phenomenally fit Bostrom remains a day-to-day enigma. When his head is on right and he's comfortable with his equipment, he's got the natural ability to race with anyone in the paddock. However, other days he doesn't seem quite as interested -- or at least just not in the right groove for whatever reason. It's impossible to guess which BBoz is going to turn up at the green light. Bostrom was inked to return to Jordan Suzuki in 2012 with Tommy Hayden still on the market so he'll likely be motivated to lift his game and keep it up there in order to prove the squad made the right choice by bringing him back.

6. Josh Herrin

Herrin is finally trading his R6 in for a works Superbike in '12, and without a Supersport/SportBike crown to show for his efforts over the years. However, there's little more he could have done in '11 to those ends, logging a class-leading five wins and only being let down in his quest for the title by a pair of mechanical DNFs. Herrin faces a steep learning curve on the Yamaha R1 but boasts world class skills and an ever-maturing approach.
