Ben Bostrom continued his assault on the Pro Honda Oils Supersport class on Saturday at Infineon Raceway, tearing almost a full second off the former track record during qualifying.

The local favorite's fast time was a remarkable 1:36.738, some three-quarters-of-a-second ahead of second placed Jake Zemke (1:37.494), not to mention Jamie Hacking's '07 pole time of 1:37.707.

"That's how we do it," Bostrom joked when asked how he was able to lead the field by such a wide margin in the typically close class. "Honestly, I love my bike. I always get up here and sound like a Yamaha commercial, but I believe we have the best bikes. If Jake beats me, he's definitely out-rode and that's the way I feel about it because I think Yamaha has definitely stepped it up with the new R6.

"I didn't expect the lap to be so good, especially almost kissing the front wheel the lap before. It's funny as it is, I'm coming around on my fast lap,
coming into the Carousel I'm just staring at the pole because I was expecting to see '98' up there. Even when I came around on my finishing lap I was still worried thinking Jake might have stepped up too."

Matsushima Suzuki's Danny Eslick enjoyed an impressive session, charging around the undulating circuit in 1:38.186 to qualify on the third slot on the front row.

Bostrom's teammate and title rival, Josh Herrin, salvaged his session with a late fast lap after crashing with only seven minutes to go and then struggling to find his way back to the pits while sitting outside the top ten. Herrin ultimately got in a 1:38.313 to grab the vital final position on the front row.

Team M4 EMGO Suzuki's Blake Young was fifth, followed by Attack Kawasaki's Steve Rapp, Young's teammate Cory West, and Rockwall Honda's Aaron Gobert.

The 60k Supersport final will take place at 2:00pm local time tomorrow afternoon.
