AMA SS: Young Learns Not to Bet Against Schwantz

Throughout his legendary racing career, it was understood all around the globe that you should never bet against Kevin Schwantz. Team M4 EMGO Suzuki's emerging star, Blake Young, discovered the hard way that it still remains true to this day.

Young, a Wisconsin native, traveled with Texan Schwantz to last November's Green Bay Packers/Dallas Cowboys game in Dallas, TX. The two made things a bit more interesting and, unfortunately for Young, the Cowboys prevailed 37-27, securing both home-field advantage for the Cowboys and some looming embarrassment for Young.

Young explained, "We just bet heads-up -- no points, no spread, no nothing -- if Pack beats Dallas Kevin had to wear a Green Bay Packers hat the whole weekend at Road Atlanta and he couldn't take it off.

"But if I lost, I had to wear a Cowboys hat if I
got on the podium at Daytona, Elkhart, and either here or Road Atlanta."

You might remember that Young finished second at Daytona and claimed his first-career AMA victory at Road America, but that Cowboys hat never made an appearance. So the 1993 500GP World Champion upped the stakes just a bit...

"I squeaked out of the first two, so I guess he made some phone calls and I was told I was getting a new replica helmet. So basically they just showed up and now I've got to wear that helmet during the race. Last night we were out for dinner and he was trying to get it to where I had to wear it for the rest of the season until I won again but I kind of put the kibosh on it. That wasn't part of the bet."

Young added with a laugh, "I told the boys to put on the crashed-up bodywork because this helmet is going with it."
