AMA SX: Stewart/Reed Rivalry Heats Up

There are millions of dollars on the line in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. No, that’s not the purse from the promoter for winning the title, and it’s not available to anyone and everyone, but both Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Chad Reed and San Manuel Yamaha’s James Stewart are due to make seven-figure bonuses if they pull off the championship this year.

However, if you think the money matters the most to them, you’d be mistaken. It’s about pride and winning.

In Jacksonville, only four rounds from the end of the championship,
it came to a bit of a head. In the second practice, Reed and Stewart got into it, jawing at each other before Reed threw a shoulder check at Stewart while they putted around the track.

“I guess he thought I tried to jack with him on his fast lap, and I guess no one else is allowed on the track other than him,” Reed said of the incident. “I didn’t get that memo, so I was just out there kind of taking a look at the track and I didn’t feel I was in the way. I didn’t feel like I was trying to hinder his lap, but I guess he did.”
