Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc., announced today the invited rider list for the 2008 Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open, which takes place October 10-12 inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The world’s top AMA Supercross and AMA Supercross Lites riders will once again compete in one class for one overall championship.
Last year Yamaha’s Grant Langston of Clermont, Fla., fresh off of his first AMA Motocross National championship, captured his first overall Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open victory with 2-5 finishes over the two nights of racing inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Honda’s Jake Weimer, of Rupert, Idaho, won Saturday night’s main event as a Lites rider, beating the impressive line-up of premier-class riders.
For the first time in Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open history the format featured one combined class comprised of Lites class and the supercross class racers.
“We have invited the best of the best this year, and I look forward to seeing which Lites riders step up in the way that Jake Weimer did last year when he won Saturday night’s main event,” said Dave Prater, director of supercross, Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc. “Year in and Year out, the U.S. Open has proven to be one of the most competitive races and 2007 was no different as the two nightly winners, Chad Reed and Weimer, were beat out by the more consistent Grant Langston.”
