What a wild night of action in Supercross and Supercross Lites from Houston. I’m pretty sure that all the fans inside Reliant Stadium got their money’s worth on Saturday night.

Let’s start with the Lites class. I don’t know if there could have been anymore drama. There was some aggressive riding going on between Dean Wilson and Justin Barcia, but in the end Barcia is the one who came out on top. Maybe that is what it’s going to take to get a victory this year in the East Region. Overall it was a great ride from all the guys in the class on Saturday. It was good to see the amateur graduates make their pro debuts and get some solid results, particularly for Ian Trettel and Jason Anderson with the Rockstar Energy Suzuki team.

Based on the track that we had at Houston, I’m not so sure we can judge anyone’s performance during the evening. It was tight and it came down to who had a good start, or who didn’t get caught up in a pileup off the start.

With that being said, in moving on to the Supercross class… I don’t even know where to begin. It was just mayhem all over the place from the heat races to the LCQ’s and down to the main event. Riders were going down and bikes were flying everywhere, but what a performance by Trey Canard to get his first victory in the class. I was very happy to see him take the win and it was an emotional one at that.

Ryan Dungey rode like a champion in Houston for sure. I think that he has to be very happy with his performance even though he didn’t look too excited about it on the podium. In my opinion, to come from where he was one week ago to finish in the runner-up spot truly was the mark of a champion.

For Ryan Villopoto to make the comeback that he did from way back in the pack is pretty outstanding. He moves into the points lead after James Stewart’s wild evening and now we have a full-fledged title fight on our hands.

My thoughts go out to Kevin Windham and Kyle Chisholm after their frightening incidents and I wish them both a speedy recovery. No one wants to see that happen to anyone, particularly when it’s two extremely well-liked individuals as those two.

My head is still spinning from everything that went on Saturday night in Houston, but let’s do it all again this weekend in San Diego!

PROGRAMMING NOTE: The AMA Supercross round from San Diego, CA will air LIVE on SPEED on Saturday, February 19 at 10:30pm ET.
