DESPAIN: Baja Tour Highlights Super 7 Sweep Fantasy Racing Game

There’s a lot to like about a Wide Open Baja trip before you ever climb in the car, yet it is the car that makes this the trip of a lifetime. (Photo: Boyd Jaynes) » More Photos

Talk about dumb luck. I returned from one of the coolest motor-driven experiences of my life - careening around Mexico’s Baja peninsula in a real desert race car, courtesy of a unique adventure tour company called Wide Open Baja – to learn that Wind Tunnel was in search of a grand prize for our new “Super 7 Sweep” fantasy racing game. Thanks to this fortuitous timing a deal has been struck: If you win the “Super 7 Sweep” grand prize you will get your own four-day Wide Open Baja tour. And I’m going with you to make sure you have fun! To check out the game, go to SPEEDtv.com and click the “Super 7 Sweep” link

Meantime, let me tell you a little bit about the trip you’ll take.

A thousand miles long, bounded by the mighty Pacific Ocean and the stunningly beautiful Sea of Cortez, the Baja peninsula is special place. I fell in love with its beauty and mystery the first time I went there and that love affair deepens with every visit. I go as often as I can (the southern tip of the peninsula is now my favorite motorcycle destination) though I have trouble putting into words
Baja’s magnetic attraction. Suffice to say it is magical and I’ll be interested to see if you feel it too.

The Mexican headquarters for Wide Open Baja is “Horsepower Ranch,” a desert oasis near Ensenada. Relaxing under a palm tree and enjoying the mountain view, you’ll begin to understand the ranch motto: “This place fixes everything.” In short, whatever was bothering you before you came here won’t matter much after you arrive.

Beyond the ranch, overnight accommodations during your Baja exploration will vary with the itinerary, ranging from excellent hotels to legendary off-road outpost Mike’s Sky Ranch to safari camping under stars you only see in places like Baja, where nighttime light is scarce.

Meals are magnifico and muchas gracias to chef Rodrigo. Feel free to pig out on chicken fajitas, shrimp the size of your fist, killer quesadillas, fruits, vegetables and guacamole to die for, all fresh and perfectly prepared. My personal favorite creature comfort is a Wide Open tradition; at the end of the day, before you can even get your gloves off, the window net drops and an ice cold beer appears in front of your helmet visor. Nice, guys, very nice!

Play Super 7 Sweep Fantasy Racing powered by Wind Tunnel!
