One of the highlights of my week takes place every Sunday night from 9-10:30 PM on the “Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain Chat.” I have the wonderful opportunity to share my love for racing with several hundred friends from across the globe who share a similar passion. We discuss almost every kind of racing…from NASCAR, Formula One, IndyCar, World of Outlaws, NHRA, IHRA, ALMS, Rolex Grand-Am, MotoGP, WSBK, local short tracks...heck, we’ll even talk Pinewood Derby and lawn mower racing.

The diversity of knowledge shared by the chatters is immense. If someone has a legitimate question it seems only a matter of seconds before someone comes up with the correct answer. Several chatters usually come up with a humorous remark or a ridiculous comment that makes me smile.

In the May 31, 2009 Chat, I think Scott from Hughesville, PA nailed the reason I and so many regular chatters show up on a regular basis. Scott asks:

Gregg, do you ever think us chatters are totally nuts? Or do you feel that maybe we are a voice that should be listened to more?

Scott, there are a few of our chatters who need to seek professional help, but I think the chatters ABSOLUTELY should be listened to more. Chatters are the voice of the common race fan and have a finger on the racing pulse. If I were in any way involved with promoting races anywhere in the world I would be monitoring the Wind Tunnel chat every week and going to the chat archive and pulling up the transcripts of all of the chats we’ve done so far. (Have all of you chatters done that? All you have to do is click on the archived chats by date. I try to do that every Monday morning. It’s surprising all the great information I missed as the live chat scrolled quickly by the first time.)

Chatters also submit questions and comments to Dave Despain or his Wind Tunnel guests. Dave typically monitors the chat during the show and often brings up chatter comments on the air or asks chatter questions to his guests. Sometimes Dave pops into the chat before the show or during commercial breaks. It’s one of three avenues Wind Tunnel viewers have to get their comments and opinions to Dave.

Ten phone lines give viewers a chance to get “on air.” The number is 1-866-WTUNNEL.

Emails reach Dave at . Every email is read and the best sometimes make it onto a graphic that is read by Dave on the show.

Chat comments are sent to Dave in “real time” and can be responded to by Dave immediately. This Sunday at 9PM join us on the “Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain” Chat. All you need to do is go to SPEEDtv.com and type in “Windtunnel” in the upper right hand search box. Click KEYWORD. Then click on CHAT and you are in business. Invite a friend and join us.
