• Jorge Lorenzo starts from pole for the fourth time this year. This is Lorenzo’s first pole in the MotoGP class at the Brno circuit. He has not won from pole since the opening race of the year at Qatar.

• The pole position time for Jorge Lorenzo is the fastest-ever lap of the Brno circuit by a motorcycle, 0.346 seconds faster than the previous record set in 2009 by Valentino Rossi.

• Cal Crutchlow has qualified in second place on the grid – his best qualifying result so far in his MotoGP career. This is the best qualifying result by a British rider in the MotoGP class since James Toseland was second on the grid on his Grand Prix debut in Qatar in 2008.

• Dani Pedrosa starts from the front row for the ninth time this year. Pedrosa has finished on the podium at the last seven successive races.

• Heading the second row is Ben Spies, who starts from fourth place on the grid for the fifth time this year. Spies will be aiming to finish on the podium for the first time since the final race of last year at Valencia.

• In the middle of the second row is Andrea Dovizioso, making it four Yamaha riders in the top five places on the grid. Dovizioso has finished on the podium four times in the last five races.

• Taking the final place on the second row is Valentino Rossi – his best qualifying result since he was sixth on the grid at the final race of 2011 at Valencia.

• Stefan Bradl, who heads the third row of the grid, had his first GP win at the Brno circuit, in the 125cc class in 2008. His father Helmut won the 250cc GP at Brno in 1991.

• In eighth place on the grid is Alvaro Bautista, who has crashed out of both his previous races in the MotoGP class at Brno.

• Karel Abraham is in ninth on the grid – his best qualifying result since the Aragon GP last year. Abraham has only once managed to make the finish at his home GP – 14th in the 250cc race in 2007.

• Randy de Puniet heads the fourth row of the grid and is the highest placed CRT rider in qualifying for the seventh time this year.
