There are two American MotoGP CRT wild card entries for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP this weekend.

Steve Rapp will once again compete on the Attack Performance machine, having participated in the Laguna Seca event late last month on the team's Kawasaki-powered special. The Attack Performance bike is sporting a new red, white and blue paint job for this race.

And multi-time AMA Superbike race winner Aaron Yates will return to action to contest the GP Tech entry featuring a frame designed by Canadian firm BCL Motorsports and an engine program via MCJ Motorsports.

The GP Tech team has entered the last few Indy races in the Moto2 class, notably with Jason DiSalvo two years ago. The announcement of Yates as the rider was a bit of a surprise as the Georgian has been off the radar since a Fontana crash in 2010 broke his leg and set off a long recovery for the 38-year old.

The goal for both will be to qualify for the race. The cutoff is 107% of the polesitter’s time, so the first challenge for both to make the show. Rapp and Attack, who essentially treated the Laguna Seca race like a test, did not qualify for the race in California.

Both teams at Indy tested last weekend and both were within the 107% mark in the first session on Friday.

Yates said he felt good and that there was still more time in the bike. “We were changing some stuff around,” said Yates afterward.

The American wild card teams are garaged next to each other, so they’ll be able to keep up with what is happening with the competition.
