PROGRAMMING NOTE: MotoGP Qualifying from Laguna Seca will air on SPEED on Saturday, July at 10:00pm ET.
Nicky Hayden has twice won his home race, the U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. Both times it was on a factory Repsol Honda but now even Hayden admits it would be miracle to repeat that success this Sunday.
It's the 4th of July weekend and a win by an American rider would be a perfect outcome but unlikely given the current three-way battle up front for the MotoGP championship.
The three men battling for the top spot, separated by just nine points after seven races, are
Italy's Valentino Rossi, Spain's Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner of Australia.
The glory years at Laguna for Hayden were 2005 and 2006, as he won the race twice and in '06 doubled with the world championship. But his switch to Ducati this season hasn't been a Hollywood movie. He is without a win or podium.
"I can't say I've been having the time of my life, that's pretty obvious, but sometimes that's how it goes, " Hayden said. "It has been a hard season but I know I have good team and I'm looking forward to Laguna although coming home doesn't mean I'll be able to make miracle.
