MOTOGP: Hayden Podium Streak Under Threat
Nicky Hayden has never failed to finish on the podium at least once each season of his decade-long MotoGP career. Can he extend the streak in 2012?

While the bulk of the attention regarding career achievements as the MotoGP World Championship streaks into Phillip Island is centered on the injured Casey Stoner's ability to increase his consecutive run of victories at his home Grand Prix to six as he prepares to ride off into the sunset, that's not the only impressive tally under threat this weekend.

American Nicky Hayden now has just two more attempts to secure a podium finish in 2012, a feat he has never failed to accomplish in his ten-year Grand Prix career.

Few would argue that the bulk of the blame for the former World Champion's top-three drought must fall on the collective shoulders of the Ducati race program (indeed, Valentino Rossi is perilously close to finishing out his two-year stint with the firm in winless fashion after having scored victories in each of his previous 15 Grand Prix seasons).

However, despite the struggles, Hayden has flashed podium potential at times this season and Phillip Island has been one of the Kentuckian's stronger circuits in the past. He has finished on the box three times in Australia, including during in his rookie season, and started on the front row here three times as well with a pair of pole positions to his name.

Hayden is well aware that time is running short to extend the remarkable record. He told SPEED.com, "I've never done a season without at least one podium and I'm running out of chances here. But somehow, someway, I hope we can find a way to steal one this year.

"Certainly in the rain would be our best chance, but even at Mugello a podium was out of the question with a lap to go.

"This would probably be much toughest year to get one but we've got a couple chances still."
