Jorge Lorenzo has confirmed that he rejected an offer from Honda to sign his new two-year deal with Yamaha in MotoGP. The 2010 World Champion was in control of the rider market following the news that Honda #1 Casey Stoner is retiring at the end of this season.

It was no surprise that the Repsol Honda team would move to secure Lorenzo as a replacement and Yamaha bosses anticipated they would have a fight to keep their star rider.

Yamaha announced Lorenzo's signing earlier this week thus securing his future just five races into the 2012 season.

By the end of this new two-year deal which ties him to the firm through 2014, Lorenzo will have served seven years with Yamaha, the only team he has raced for in MotoGP. “I am really happy to stay here with Yamaha. It was very difficult to take a decision because I had on offer from Honda and to make the decision was very tough," Lorenzo said. "But finally my heart said Yamaha."

He continued, “Normally it takes more time to decide and the last time I signed a contract we spent more months and more races but this time it happened like this and I said yes to Yamaha.

"For this reason I will be a little less worried for the next few races. But not so much because I have always been very quiet in this sense."

Lorenzo has won three of five races this season and leads the world championship points going in Sunday's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
