Nicky Hayden hopes to have fully recovered from a recent shoulder injury and take his place aboard Ducati's all-new GP12 in the opening preseason test in Malaysia later this month.

The three-day test at Sepang starts on January 31 and Hayden is eager not to miss any further track time after he was forced to miss last November's Valencia test with a fractured wrist.

Hayden broke his left shoulder and three ribs in a flat-track crash while training in late December. He elected not to have surgery and will have his first ride back on a bike at the Sepang test.

"It has been exactly two weeks today since the crash and now I can remove the sling," Hayden said at Ducati's annual launch at the Madonna di Campiglio ski restart in Italy.

"The first bit was a little bit uncomfortable because I also broke three ribs, and ribs are never fun, but now I can take away the sling and start to do a bit of rehab The goal is to be able to ride in Malaysia.

"It is going to be a little bit close because the shoulder blade I broke quite bad and all the way through.

"I didn’t make an operation because it is not an easy one to fix, with a lot of muscle and other soft tissue that you have to cut during an operation. But I feel a lot better now and the target is to be in Malaysia with a bit of strength. I already missed one test in Valencia and I don't want to miss another one."

Hayden says he is optimistic that the new GP12, featuring a Japanese-copy twin-spar aluminum frame, will revive Ducati's performance following a dismal 2011 season.

The American ace will not join teammate Valentino Rossi on the ski slopes this week as he waist for his shoulder to fully heal. The opening Sepang test is regarded as a crucial form guide to the season and having missed the Valencia test the Sepang outing will be Hayden's first on GP12.

Hayden missed the Valencia test after requiring surgery after fracturing his right wrist in a Turn 1 pile-up at the final race of last season. Hayden is keeping up his fitness wit sessions on a stationary bicycle.
