Dani Pedrosa stands just 13 points removed from the MotoGP World Championship lead with six rounds remaining following his stunning victory over title rival Jorge Lorenzo in Sunday's Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno.

The championship contenders immediately turned the contest into a two-man affair, quickly breaking free of the world-class pack and settling in for an hour-long 1v1 strategic shootout at the front.

Factory Yamaha pilot Lorenzo led the race's opening half with Pedrosa right in tow. The Repsol Honda ace made his move with just over 10 laps to go but was unable to break Lorenzo, who simply tucked in behind his fellow Spaniard in kind.

From there the two men simply waited for the final lap showdown and it did not disappoint.

Lorenzo dove under Pedrosa with a pass that forced the Honda rider to check up a bit. However, he quickly regrouped and mounted a counterattack a handful of corners later. The two traded the advantage back and forth with every split second as they negotiated the flowing circuit's back half chicanes, with Pedrosa slotting himself into first as they made the final lung to the flag.

The rolling Pedrosa is now looking over Lorenzo's shoulder as he attempts to erase the somewhat dubious honor of 'best MotoGP racer to have never won a championship.'

Behind the recently re-signed Cal Crutchlow raced to a certain third some 12 seconds back but with six seconds padding to fourth -- the first podium finish for a British rider at the sport's highest level in over a decade.

Crutchlow's Tech3 teammate, Andrea Doviziso, picked up fourth with LCR Honda's Stefan Bradl finishing fifth.

San Carlo Gresini Honda's Alvaro Bautista was next, followed by Ducati Team's Valentino Rossi, who showed impressive pace in the race's opening laps before slowly fading back to seventh.

American Ben Spies incredibly back luck continued. Shortly after making a decent launch and establishing himself in fourth on the race's opening lap, Spies put his hand up and dropped well outside the top ten with an apparent problem on the heels of two consecutive machine failures.

The Texan seemed to sort out the issue and raced his way back up to eighth from 13th before crashing out of the contest as his nightmare of a campaign continues to spiral downward.

Power Electronic Aspar's Randy de Puniet was top CRT man in eighth, beating home track fav Karel Abraham and teammate Aleix Esparagaro, who completed the top ten.

The 2012 MotoGP World Championship will resume in three weeks' time at Misano.
