Roger Lee Hayden, the youngest of the three Hayden brothers, has been nominated to replace the injured Randy de Puniet in the LCR Honda team at the US Grand Prix.

Hayden is now set to join older brother Nicky who rides for Ducati at the Laguna Seca race this weekend. LCR team boss Lucio Cecchinello moved quickly to secure a wild card replacement once he understood the extent of De Puniet's injuries.

Cecchinello spoke to Nicky Hayden at the Sachsenring. An official announcement is yet to be made but sources close to the deal say that Roger Lee will be the fourth American in the Laguna race. He will join Ben Spies, Colin Edwardsm and brother Nicky.

De Puniet suffered fractures to both the tibia and fibula of his lower left leg when he was struck by Mika Kallio's Ducati in a brutal four-rider crash in Sunday's German GP at the Sachsenring.

Hayden's upgrade to MotoGP now comes in advance of his planned appearance in Moto2 aboard a Honda America-backed Moriwaki at the Indianapolis GP in August. That team is to be managed by Texas legend Kevin Schwantz and it is anticipated that Schwantz will be a key advisor to Hayden in the LCR garage during the Laguna Seca weekend.

LCR's crew chief is the highly experienced Christophe Bourguignon, who was the Kayaba suspension technician during Schwantz's winning days with the factory Suzuki 500cc team. The presence of Bourguignon and Schwantz in the LCR garage will bring a huge level of Grand Prix experience to Hayden's wild card weekend.

Hayden raced as a wild card for Kawasaki in the US GP at Laguna Seca in 2007 and finished tenth.
