For once the weather forecast was correct. A red typhoon, in the shape of Casey Stoner and Ducati, swept through the Sachsenring to claim a rain-soaked victory in the German Grand Prix.
It was another masterful ride by the defending world champion who has now won three races in succession, giving him four out of 10 for the season so far.
Stoner's win on a waterlogged track in front of a huge crowd of 98,000 fans who braved the conditions, was at the expense of his main championship rivals, Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa. Rossi finished second to regain the points lead while Pedrosa went out in a high-speed Turn 1 tumble and scored zero points.

Vermeulen just held off a fast finishing Alex de Angelis (Honda) who was fourth with another Honda rider, Andrew Dovizioso, fifth. Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli scored his best result for the season so far with sixth place on a Ducati.
Stoner's latest win, the 100th by an Australian rider in the premier class, has opened up the championship chase ahead of next Sunday's U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.
Rossi is the new points leader on 187 with Pedrosa on 171 and Stoner on 167 but the scene is set for Laguna to be a crucial event before riders take their annual summer holidays.
