MOTOGP: Stoner Gone Fishin’
Even a record $15 million offer from Honda could not stop MotoGP legend Casey Stoner from riding off into the sunset.

Casey Stoner has ended his MotoGP career after seven seasons and racing just got a whole lot easier for his former rivals.

Stoner has been the dominant rider of that period with 38 race wins, easily eclipsing Valentino Rossi who is next with 26 victories since 2006.

As 2012 World Champion Jorge Lorenzo has observed it will be "much easier" to be on the podium next year without Stoner on the grid.

Lorenzo came to MotoGP in 2008 and his five seasons have produced 23 wins.

Stoner said goodbye with a safety-first third place in Sunday's Valencia Grand Prix which was held in treacherous conditions on slippery circuit with just a single, dry and narrow, racing line.

It was Stoner's 115th MotoGP race giving him an impressive winning strike of 33%, averaging a win every three races.

Stoner's immediate plans revolve around spending time with his young family and some fishing.

He is not hanging around for the post-season test sessions at Valencia and reckons that many of rivals may be just a little jealous.

"I think except for people changing bikes most people would prefer to do what I'm doing next week -- probably nothing," Stoner said. "It is a little strange not being involved in what is happening next year with new bikes and testing but it is also a big weight off your shoulders that you don't have to think about it.

"Now I'll take some time to enjoy life which is something I'm looking forward to."
