PROGRAMMING NOTE: The MotoGP race from Laguna Seca will air LIVE on FOX on Sunday, July 5 at 5:00pm ET.

Suzuki rider Chris Vermeulen has been on the podium at the U.S. Grand Prix the past two years but admits a three-peat is going to be a tough task in Sunday's 32-lap race.

Vermeulen has been a winner at World Superbike events at Laguna and was second to Casey Stoner in the U.S. GP in '07 and then third last year behind Valentino Rossi and Stoner.

The 27-year-old Australian has qualified ninth for this year's race after picking himself up from a bruising crash
in the Saturday morning free practice session.

Vermeulen was not alone in visiting the gravel trap with both Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo suffering vicious highsides during qualifying with Lorenzo holding pole position despite his crash.

"Getting on the podium here again is going to be really hard because the two Yamahas and Casey are very strong at the front," Vermeulen said. "With regards to the rest of the field we can probably run with them but those first three are going to be off, it will be very hard to compete with them. But it's racing so anything can happen."
