SPEED Notes: From Kansas To Japan
Wednesday's edition of NASCAR Race Hub will provide the latest on the appeals hearing of the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing team...

NASCAR RACE HUB: The Hub (7 p.m. ET Monday-Thursday) brings viewers up-to-date on the latest in today’s No. 33 Richard Childress Racing appeals hearing with a report from Danielle Trotta on Wednesday’s show. Wednesday’s edition also features Jimmie Johnson in a two-segment, sit-down interview with host Steve Byrnes. Also appearing on the Hub Wednesday will be Greg Biffle, as well as an in-studio visit with Charlotte Motor Speedway president Marcus Smith. Jeff Hammond also stops by to preview this weekend’s Kansas race.
On Thursday, Wendy Venturini talks to Denny Hamlin.
On his first years in the Cup Series:
“I never can remember having a good time,” Hamlin said. I had just accomplished something that I’d always wanted to…and then I wasn’t having any fun, because each and every week that I wasn’t winning I was constantly frustrated. Mike [Ford] had a talk with me and said, ‘If you only find happiness in winning, you’re going to be very disappointed in this sport.’
On the significance of this season:
“I think this is a career-defining season … No matter what the outcome,” Hamlin continued. “This is a big learning year for myself. To have a learning year and still have a successful year is not too common, but I feel like we’ve handled that balance well.”
Also on Thursday, Bob Dillner has the latest from Kansas Speedway and Ray Dunlap interviews Turner Motorsports owner Steve Turner.

SADLER VS. THE INTIMIDATOR: On Wednesday’s episode of the prime time show Intersections (8 p.m. ET), NASCAR driver Elliott Sadler takes SPEED viewers through a unique comparison between an 850-horsepower NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race car and the new 211-foot, 80-mph, high-speed rollercoaster named after the late Dale Earnhardt – “The Intimidator.”
“This is, by far, the best rollercoaster I’ve ever been on,” Sadler said on Intersections. “As far as the far turn, it’s exactly like (Bristol Motor Speedway). The motion, the g-forces … everything is pushing you into the seat while you are making a very, very sharp turn. It’s the same sensation that we get at Bristol, so the engineers did a great job of laying this out to give you some of that racing sensation that we feel every weekend.”
Intersections, which premiered on SPEED this summer, takes two seemingly different speed machines and compare the similarities, as well as offer an intimate look at the people who operate them.
ARCA RACING SERIES LIVE AT KANSAS: SPEED offers live coverage of Thursday’s ARCA Racing Series race from Kansas Speedway at 5 p.m. ET with Rick Allen, Phil Parsons and Darrell Waltrip calling the action, with Wendy Venturini and Jim Tretow patrolling pit road.
NASCAR RACEDAY: Darrell Waltrip joins host John Roberts, Kyle Petty and Kenny Wallace Sunday on NASCAR RaceDay Built by The Home Depot (Sunday at 10 a.m. ET) from Kansas. Reporters Wendy Venturini and Hermie Sadler will have live interviews with Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano and Mark Martin.
TRUCKS OFF BUT UP: The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads into a three-week break this weekend before embarking on a five-race run to the championship that begins Oct. 23 at Martinsville Speedway. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race from Las Vegas scored a Nielsen Household Rating of .54 (419,000 households) on SPEED, up 17 percent from last year’s .46 (338,000 households). According to Nielsen Media Research, coverage of the NCWTS race peaked at .59 (453,000 households), up 16 percent from last year’s .51 (381,000 households).
After early season postponements at Daytona (rain) and Gateway (electrical) put the series in a ratings hole, the Trucks continue to build momentum with viewers, scoring increases in five of the last eight events (Pocono up 78%, Darlington up 19%, Bristol up 3%, Kentucky 115% and Las Vegas). Since July, NCWTS ratings are up 10 percent year-to-year.
The Trucks return to SPEED on Oct. 23 from Martinsville, with live coverage beginning with NCWTS Setup at 12:30 p.m. ET and race coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES: SPEED presents live coverage of The Petit Le Mans Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. ET from Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga.
TRACKSIDE: Krista Voda, Larry McReynolds, Jeff Hammond and Elliott Sadler welcome four-time reigning champion Jimmie Johnson, who won last weekend’s race at Dover. Also joining the panel will be AJ Allmendinger. Trackside from Kansas airs live Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: SPEED is live from Twin Ring Motegi in Japan with coverage of MotoGP World Championship beginning Sunday at 2 a.m. ET, in addition to same-day coverage of MotoGP Moto2 from Japan Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
TWO WHEELIN’ IT: SPEED switches gears Sunday from four wheels to two to present same-day coverage of FIM World Superbike from France at 4 p.m. ET, followed by same-day coverage of the second race at 5 p.m. ET.
RACE TRACK CUISINE: In Saturday’s episode of The Racing Chef (7 a.m. ET), Chef Nicky Morse prepares salmon with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Jennifer Jo Cobb and cooks burritos with a NASCAR fan. Additionally, he makes stops along the NASCAR circuit at two popular establishments – the Harbor House in Tennessee and The Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
