PROGRAMMING NOTE: The 2012 Monster Energy Supercross season opener from Anaheim, CA will air LIVE on SPEED Saturday, January 7th at 10:00pm ET.

It's game time here in Anaheim! The industry has been waiting anxiously for this evening for weeks and now the time has come. The smell of the engines and the roar of the four-stroke are filling every inch of Angel Stadium. The pits are packed and the fans are coming in droves. It’s time to go racing and the day is well on its way into what should be a memorable night of action.

· The first track of the 2012 season is a unique layout to say the least; it's an extremely intricate layouts and definitely one of the best uses of the spacious Angel Stadium floor. The track will keep riders busy with a lot of potential for multiple racing lines. Most of the action will take place in the middle portion of the floor, as the circuit comes in and out on itself.

· There is definitely a bigger buzz coming into this season than any in recent memory. Coming off an epic 2011 campaign, the world is taking notice of the sport, and deservedly so. These athletes are phenomenal and the competition is deeper and better than ever. Angel Stadium is going to be sold out tonight. If you have a ticket, you’re fortunate, if you don’t, you’re still in luck as SPEED will bring it to you live tonight.

· So, who will come out on top tonight? Historically Anaheim 1 has served up some big-time surprises. With the likes of Justin Brayton, Andrew Short, Jake Weimer, Broc Tickle, and Brett Metcalfe all riding well and seeking a first career win, you never know what could happen.

· At the moment just about the only way to get an indication of potential finishing orders is to take a look at the practice charts. Sure, practice standings almost never replicate race results, but at least we can see who’s really finding their way around this track and settling into a groove…

· To no surprise, Ryan Villopoto paced the opening 450 practice with James Stewart very close behind. Typically, a Supercross lap time is in the 50-second range, but the involved nature of this track tonight has pushed it into the 1-minute range. RV checked in at just over 1:01 with Stewart only a tenth behind that. Ryan Dungey and Chad Reed (as expected) rounded out the top four, with Andrew Short jumping into the top five right at the end of the session. There is still one session remaining and sometimes it produces faster times. Look for laps breaking the minute barrier tonight.
