SX: Countdown To A1 - #2 Ryan Dungey
Ryan Dungey should be stronger than ever in 2013, but will that be enough to dethrone the champ?

With a full season of competition behind them, the foundation has been built for Dungey and KTM to achieve even more success and prove an even more formidable challenger to the Supercross throne in 2013. At this past October’s Monster Energy Cup, Dungey overcame a pair of freakish shifting problems that forced him to change gears with his hand and almost emerged victorious. It was another defining moment for Dungey who showed a resiliency that many were unaware he possessed, which in a way has served as a notable element heading into Saturday night’s season opener.

Dungey appears to have a newfound respect from the fans -- traditionally his biggest critics -- and many feel like his chances at ending Villopoto's reign are better than ever. Dungey and his KTM have appeared meant for one another from the get-go and the influence of DeCoster is undeniable.

There is little doubt that Dungey’s consistency is his biggest asset -- one that has won him three national titles in three seasons while also putting him in the thick of the title hunt in any championship he hasn’t taken. That consistency is bound to pay dividends yet again in 2013 and with even more confidence in his ability as well as in the bike, you have to believe Dungey will be better than he was last season. Whether that will result in a championship is to be determined.
Dungey will again have a shot at the title in 2013, but I think he will come up just a bit short in successfully dethroning the champ.
