SX: Davi And Goliaths
Supercross champions are born, not made. At least that was the assumption prior to Davi Millsaps' ascension in 2013.

This is not intended as a knock on Millsaps, who has always been a very solid racer, but in Supercross, riders do not hang around for years as next-tier talents and suddenly transform into world beaters, especially when backed by non-factory efforts.
Sure, sometimes opportunity knocks and the second tier guys will steal away a win on the rare occasion -- like Andrew Short did last season, or Josh Hill back in 2008, or Millsaps himself a few times in the past.
But for a rider to go from someone capable of sneaking his way to a win when everything goes just right (which includes everything going just wrong for the established Supercross royalty) to one capable of taking it to the living legends on a weekly basis is uncharted territory.
And for that reason, it's been easy to remain skeptical -- enjoy the ride while it lasts and wait for the inevitable to occur.
However, last weekend's steamroll in San Diego made the 'inevitable' feel anything but. Millsaps' magic no longer feels like an aberration so much as an unprecedented reshuffling of the pecking order.
Granted, there's a long season ahead, but that red plate has served more as a spur than a burden for the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross points leader and emerging championship favorite.
Who's betting against Davi taking down the Goliaths now?
