It certainly didn't take long for 2010 Monster Energy Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey to not only put KTM on the Supercross map but in the headlines.

After securing the Austrian manufacturer's first Supercross podium a week ago in his Monster Energy Supercross debut with KTM, Dungey notched up a dominating win Round 2 on Saturday night in Phoenix.

Dungey made a nifty start and stole an immediate advantage a couple corners into the race which he would only build upon as the race took shape, his position at the front of the pack never coming under threat.

After claiming the historic win, Dungey said, "I got to give up for the whole team, the Red Bull/KTM guys. It was a long offseason and to bring this manufacturer over to the USA and try to be dominant -- it's a long process. But I've got a great group behind me.

"I got off to good start and was able to put in nice, clean laps, which is key to leading the race. I'm really glad to get this win; we've still got a long way to go but this is a big step for myself and the team."

As is frequently the case in Supercross racing, the first lap proved absolutely pivotal, and not just up front. While Dungey took full advantage of his terrific launch, Monster Energy Kawasaki's defending champion Ryan Villopoto and JGRMX's James Stewart were not so fortunate on the opening circulation.

Stewart suffered another poor start, which was exacerbated when he came together Josh Hansen as they jockeyed for position. Meanwhile, Villopoto, who got away decently in fifth, was a victim of circumstance as Stewart's teammate, Davi Millsaps, crashed directly in front of him leaving the defending champ with no option but run over top of Millsaps' downed machine, falling himself as a result.

Villopoto returned to the fray to open the second lap all the way down in last position.
