SX LITES: Barcia Remains Undefeated
Justin Barcia survived the treacherous conditions and a dramatic final lap attack by Blake Baggett at Daytona to up his Lites East streak to four.

Saturday rain showers presented the Supercross Lites contenders with one of the most challenging racetracks in recent memory, but even the treacherous circuit had no answer for Justin Barcia's remarkable roll.

The GIECO Honda ace upped his perfect '12 streak to four, immediately springing into the lead and quickly dropping his rivals at a clip of seconds per lap early on in the shortened 12-lap final.

With riders repeatedly slogging through mud bogs, flailing about with two feet off the pegs, and gingerly navigating turns, Barica was out front, aggressively attacking the circuit and deftly keeping his front-end light and skipping over deep pools of standing water.

However, '11 Daytona Supercross winner Blake Baggett proved capable of giving 'Bam Bam' a scare (or two), tracking the defending champ down from several seconds back mid-race. Showing flashes of his stellar form of a year ago, Baggett appeared positioned to make a strike on the lead but his hopes were seemingly dashed when he lost the front after finally closing onto Barcia's rear.

The Pro Circuit pilot remounted still in second but his hard work to whittle away his rival's six-second lead was instantly erased.

Baggett didn't give up at that point however, and once again managed to run down his rival. The Kawasaki runner put himself back in position to attempt a pass for the win on the race's dramatic final lap, but Barcia made a sensational save to just hold on four his fourth consecutive victory.

Successfully avoiding Saturday night's potential pitfalls (both the conditions and Baggett's inspired riding), the question now becomes whether or not Barcia is capable of assembling a perfect season.

Barcia said, "Oh man, it was so physically demanding out there. It was such a tough race -- I had to give 100% effort. The ruts and the lappers... I'm just so glad to come out here safe and to get the win is awesome."
