Troy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil Honda's Cole Seely fired the first shot of the Monster Energy Supercross Lites West season tonight at Anaheim I.
Quickly slicing his way past the fast starting Vince Friese, Seely wasted little time, dropping Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammates Dean Wilson and Tyla Rattray to assume the lead on lap 4 and never looked back.
Seely was inch perfect and walked to an easy win to score the first main event victory of the Supercross season.
Rattray and Wilson diced for second deep into the contest before Ratrray opened up some space on the race's final laps.
Wilson, who was suffering from arm pump issues, found himself under assault on the final lap from GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac, who raced his way from the LCQ to main event mid-pack to podium contention. Tomac struck with an outside-inside maneuver just as Kawasaki runner Wilson made a mistake, crashing into the dirt after his front wheel got caught in a rut.
Tomac carried on to claim an impressive third, while Wilson dropped behind KTM's international ace Marvin Musquin and Star Racing/Valli Motorsports Yamaha's Ryan Spies to pick up sixth.
It was a difficult main event for Heat Race winners Martin Davalos (Rockstar Energy Suzuki), who fell out with a mechanical DNF and Wil Hahn (GEICO Honda), who crashed from fourth before ultimately finishing eight.
