Ryan Villopoto has shot up the SPEED.com SX power rankings chart following his dominant outing at A2… but just how high did he climb?

6. Justin Barcia (Last Week: 2 / -4)

This sport is both very rewarding and extremely punishing, and Barcia got a taste of that in Anaheim. Just one week after claiming his first premier class victory, Barcia cased a triple and slammed his head into his handle bars, resulting in a couple gashes to his face and possibly a broken nose as well. He’s sure to be sore tomorrow night, so there’s no way to really say how he’ll perform. After falling from second to eighth in the championship, you can bet he’s going to do all he can to make up the ground he lost.

7. Jake Weimer (Last Week: 7 / No Change)

This is arguably the best start to a season for Weimer since making the transition to the big bikes. He’s been a consistent threat for the top five and looks to be improving each week. I know he’s been under the weather, but given how happy he must be with his recent results, I’m sure he won’t let anything hold him back from keeping the momentum going.

8. Andrew Short (Last Week: 8 / +1)

Last week's that L&Mc Racing will close its doors for the remainder of the 2013 season was devastating for Short. However, rumors are swirling that the veteran has some things in the works (GEICO Honda has an open seat…) in hopes of keeping him out on the track this season, which is good to hear since he’s been solid thus far. Until he doesn’t line up on the gate, I’m keeping Short in the rankings. Let’s just hope the immediate future is a good one for one of the sport’s good guys.

9. James Stewart (Last Week: 8 / -1)

On the heels of revealing he has a torn ACL, Stewart experienced his worst outing of the season in Anaheim, getting pushed off the track by Josh Grant and then falling a little later in the race. It’s obvious that 2013 hasn’t gone the way Stewart had envisioned, but he’s a fighter and he’ll keep charging. The bike is good and I think considering how serious this injury could be, Stewart is doing pretty well too. He won at Oakland a year ago, so perhaps tomorrow night is when things come together.

10. Josh Grant (Last Week: 10 / No Change)

With his developing rivalry with Stewart and impending battle with teammate Justin Brayton for 10th in the standings, Grant is looking at a pretty exciting 2013. He’s shown that he’s not intimidated by anyone, which has helped keep him in the top 10 thus far. We’ll continue to monitor Grant's results in the coming weeks.
