PROGRAMMING NOTE: Round 5 of the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross Championship from Anaheim, CA will air LIVE on SPEED on Saturday, February 2nd at 10:30pm ET.

Ryan Villopoto assumed the top spot after scoring his first victory of the season at A2, so there should be little surprise to see that the champ stayed there after scoring a second consecutive dominant win last weekend in Oakland.

1. Ryan Villopoto (Last Week: 1 / No Change)

Villopoto sent a message to his rivals last week in Oakland. If anyone is going to take his title away from him, they’re going to have to beat him head-to-head. The champ is hitting his groove and his rapid rise through the standings see him less than 10 points from the championship lead.

2. Davi Millsaps (Last Week: 2 / No Change)

He’s doing exactly what he needs to do. Consistency is what wins championships and so far, Millsaps has put forth a textbook effort to retain possession of the red plate. His lead may be shrinking, but Millsaps is still posting podium results.

3. Trey Canard (Last Week: 3 / No Change)

Oakland could have easily gone differently for Canard. Even though it wasn’t one of his better nights, Trey still brought home a solid fourth-place finish, which helps keep him within reach of the points lead. It’s only a matter of time before he’s standing atop the podium.

4. Ryan Dungey (Last Week: 5 / +1)

After a couple rough weeks, Oakland was exactly what Dungey needed to start turning his back back around. It’s impressive when you consider that he’s still fourth in points despite all the trouble he’s encountered, but now its time for Dungey stay clean and start pushing for wins if he’s going to stay in the picture for the championship. That third place will help get the ball rolling.

5. Chad Reed (Last Week: 4 / -1)

Oakland was probably one of the most frustrating races of Reed’s career. I think as a whole, Chad isn’t satisfied with how his season has gone thus far, even though he’s sitting fifth in the championship. He expects more from himself, and I think he’s ready to step it up and maybe even grab a win. Keep an eye on the veteran because this is when he generally begins to dial things in.
