6. Andrew Short (Last Week: 8 / +2)
He lost his ride, showed up in Oakland with his own team, and then finished sixth. Over the span of a few days Short likely experienced every emotion possible for a racer, but in the end, he came out looking better than ever. He’s certainly motivated to prove he’s worthy of a ride somewhere and boasts the biggest jump of the week, bumping up two spots in the rankings.
7. Justin Barcia (Last Week: 6 / -1)
The last two weeks that Barcia has endured are about as bad as it can get for a rider. He’s probably not physically at his best, but Barcia is a fighter and he’ll keep twisting that throttle harder than anyone else on the track. A rookie season can definitely bring about some down moments, but Barcia will learn from it and get better.
8. Jake Weimer (Last Week: 7 / -1)
He didn’t race last week because of an illness, yet he still sits seventh in the championship after some of his competitors suffered through difficult nights. It looks like resting up for this weekend was the right call for Weimer, who has had a great start to the 2013 campaign.
9. James Stewart (Last Week: 9 / No Change)
Even though he’s dropped out of the top 10 in points, there has been so much movement around him in the standings that no rider has really made their mark on a consistent basis. Stewart’s misfortune in Oakland was not of his own doing, but it looks like the knee is potentially in even worse shape than before. It will be interesting to see how he’s able to ride this weekend, but I can assure you he’s not okay with sitting 11th in the standings.
10. Justin Brayton (Last Week: Not Ranked)
After teammate Josh Grant held the final spot on this list for couple weeks, Brayton assumes the position after he left Oakland with a big jump up in the standings. He currently sits eighth, ahead of both Barcia and Stewart, but he’s still in search of that consistency that would keep him in the power rankings on a consistent basis.
