SX: Winning Is The Only Thing
The Monster Energy Cup is sheer drama and spectacle -- and perhaps the most anticipated race of the entire year.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: The Monster Energy Cup from Las Vegas, NV will air LIVE on SPEED on Saturday, October 20th at 10:00pm ET.

It’s billed as the ultimate hybrid of the Supercross and Motocross disciplines. And after a successful debut one year ago, the Monster Energy Cup returns this Saturday for the wildest night in motocross you'll see all year long. With a million bucks on the line for during a one-night, winner-take-all format there could only be one place deserving of hosting such a unique event -- Las Vegas.

Sam Boyd Stadium is no stranger to the stars of the sport or its fans. The venue has been a staple of the AMA Supercross Championship since 1990, hosting the finale each season since 1993.

And with the introduction of the Monster Energy Cup, the stadium's legacy is even further cemented as a sacred spot for the sport. The unique characteristics of the stadium, which features an open end zone, provides the opportunity to create some of the most unique layouts the sport has ever seen.

The creative minds at Feld Motor Sports have taken the art of track design to a new level for the Monster Energy Cup, creating a challenging, one-of-a-kind track that features equal amounts of Supercross and Motocross elements in an effort to level the playing field and determine the “ultimate” rider. Feld has even enlisted the services of none other than the GOAT himself, Ricky Carmichael, to build a track that is worthy of a million bucks.

Events of this nature are nothing new to the world of motorsports. NASCAR has hosted its iconic All-Star Race in Charlotte for decades, and it still remains the bench mark for one-off showcases. The NHRA took a shot of its own back in 1999 with the Winston Showdown at a brand-new Bristol Dragway and to this day, it remains the only time Top Fuelers and Funny Cars have faced off head-to-head. Even Supercross established its own tradition with the U.S. Open, which was also hosted at Las Vegas inside the friendly confines of the MGM Grand’s Garden Arena.

A race of this nature is a must see not because it’s unique, but because for on that evening the best riders and/or drivers on the planet compete with only one thing in mind -- victory. There aren’t any points to be paid towards a championship and the rulebook is more or less ignored. It’s purely about bragging rights to the point that the term “have at it, boys” couldn’t be more fitting.

These are racers, and when you put them all out on a track at one time, they want nothing more than to win. When you sweeten the pot with a bounty of cash, it only adds to the unpredictability that is sure to ensue.

All-Star style races are purely about giving the fans what they want -- great racing and perhaps more than a little drama, pitting the best-of-the-best against one another in a sprint-like format that effectively removes the strategic variables and promotes unadulterated competition. The U.S. Open was an anticipated event in its time and had a penchant for producing some wild races. Drama was never an issue.
