SX: The Holeshot - Indy
This is not the Monster Energy Supercross season we expected; Brandon Short reflects on how 'the year of parity' has become an injury-strewn, one-sided affair.

Justin Brayton and Brett Metcalfe both took Indy by storm. The young-yet-experienced duo had the chance to grab the spotlight, and they did just that. Metcalfe started things off by winning his heat race, while Brayton followed suit immediately afterward.
In the main event, the pair asserted themselves at the front of the field, forcing Villopoto to earn his sixth win. Both riders ran exceptionally well all night long and turned plenty of heads in doing so. With the best finish of the season recorded by each respective rider, it could provide the boost in confidence required to become regular fixtures in the fight for the podium.
But arguably the hottest rider in the series is Davi Millsaps. Outside of Villopoto, I don’t think there’s been a rider that has impressed me more over the second half of the season. Since Atlanta, Millsaps has recorded finishes of 4th, 6th, 3rd, and 3rd, climbing from 11th to 4th in the championship in the process. That is nothing short of incredible and it's an indication of how much the JGR team has improved as a whole.
The battle inside the top 10 in the points has been something to watch on a weekly basis. There has been much shuffling around and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. With the likes of Millsaps, Brayton, Metcalfe, Kevin Windham, and Jake Weimer all battling it out, this is the group to track.
Meanwhile on the undercard, all I can say is that Ken Roczen must be really kicking himself for letting that one slip away. We've been waiting for the wunderkind to show what he's made of, and on Saturday, he finally looked like the phenom we’ve been waiting for Stateside over the past two seasons. Restart or not, Roczen was in control of that main event and he knows more than anyone that he let one slip away.
