SX: The Holeshot - San Diego
Another underdog victory cemented the fact that this season's championship race will be unlike any we've ever seen.

The “Big Four” ran together for a big chunk of the race, but they didn’t storm to the front like one might have assumed. It was an odd, almost surreal, sight. We’ve talked about this being the most competitive era in the history of the sport and right now these riders are proving that. Wins, podiums, and even top fives are not a given anymore for the elite.

The end of the initial West Coast swing is now over, meaning that the season makes its way indoors to the luxurious expanses of the domes for bulk of the next couple months. If anything, the dome season could be what riders like Reed, Stewart and Canard, who have yet to win this season, are waiting for. The domes remove that element of Mother Nature, and while we didn’t experience any rain out west, there was still a lot of moisture in the air, which lead to some treacherous and tricky tracks. Now, what you see is what you get.

This move inside will also be the next test for Millsaps. The cream always rises to the top during this part of the season and right now, Millsaps is the guy to beat hands down. I don’t doubt his ability one bit and he continues to fly out of the gate better than anyone in the series. However, you have to think the confidence levels of his heavy-hitting rivals are going to increase knowing that they won’t necessarily need to fight the track while also battling their competitors. I think the killer instinct of each of the former champions is in full effect because it’s now or never for all of them if they still want a chance to win the title.

The next chapter of Monster Energy Supercross begins on Saturday night in Dallas. Will Millsaps continue to write his own legacy?
