PROGRAMMING NOTE: Round 3 of the Monster Energy Supercross Lites West Championship from Los Angeles, CA will air on SPEED Monday, January 23 at 12:00pm ET. #SXonSPEED
The 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship is proving to be one of the toughest seasons to date, and we’re only two rounds in. This is truly a season where, in both the Supercross and Supercross Lites classes, anyone could end up with a win.
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki riders Dean Wilson and Tyla Rattray started the night strong, finishing first and second, respectively, in their heat race.
“It’s nice to get a win and a good start to the night,” Wilson said, “I wheelied halfway up the straight, but it’s all good. I’m excited for the Main.”
Teammate Broc Tickle, on the other hand, had a tough night in the Supercross Class. An early crash in his heat sent him to the Last Chance Qualifier, where he ended the race just shy of a qualifying position.
“I struggled all night with feeling comfortable,” said Tickle. “This week I’m really working on starts and am looking to rebound in Los Angeles.”
Wilson and Rattray turned it on for the Lites Main. Rattray grabbed the holeshot, while Wilson started in third behind Rattray and KTM’s Marvin Musquin. Wilson made an early charge, passing both Musquin and Rattray, and led the way for the West Coast Lites crew for the remainder of the race, taking his first win of the season. Rattray rounded out the podium with a third place finish, earning him the points lead and the coveted red plate.
“I managed to get the holeshot, but over-jumped the triple way too far, got passed and ended up third,” said Rattray, “I’m looking forward to going to Los Angeles this weekend and hopefully getting my first West Coast Lites win.”
“It feels good to get a win,” said Wilson, “I definitely wasn’t myself last weekend, but I’m myself now, and I’m excited to keep that going for Los Angeles.”
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team heads to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles this weekend for the third round of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. Rattray sits first in the Supercross Lites West Region with 42 points, while Wilson moves up to third overall with 40 points. Tickle heads to Los Angeles in 16th in the Supercross Class, with nine points.
