Paul Ianuario, a collector of rare automobiles for a half century and a veteran Concours judge of 30 years, has been named Chief Judge for the inaugural Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance at Pinehurst Resort.

Ianuario heads an esteemed collection of 25 judges who will oversee the vintage-auto show and field competition May 5 on the golf course at the historic resort in the North Carolina Sandhills, including John Carlson as Deputy Chief Judge and Ed Gilbertson as Chief Honorary Judge.

“The judges we’ve assembled for the Pinehurst Concours is like a ‘Who’s Who’ list of judging in the vintage car community,” Ianuario said.

A Master CCCA judge, Ianuario is annually invited to judge at the Pebble Beach Concours, Amelia Island Concours, Radnor Hunt Concours, Kirkland Concours, Eastern Concours of the US, Hilton Head Concours and others.

“The competitors won’t take a rare or extinct car to just any event,” Ianuario said. “They want judges who have restored or built cars similar to the one they are bringing, judges who have written articles, judges who really duked it out in serious competition and know what it is to build a car from scratch. They want credibility, they want name recognition. We certainly have that at the Pinehurst Concours.”

North Carolina businessman and Porsche collector Bob Ingram is serving as the honorary chairman of the Pinehurst Concours, a weekend that includes an Iron Mike Rally to nearby Fort Bragg on May 3 to honor the Wounded Warriors, and a collector-car auction May 4.

“The foundation of any Concours competition is the judges,” Ingram said. “I can tell you this group is seasoned, experienced and will make us proud to bring a Concours to such an iconic destination as Pinehurst Resort.”

General admission tickets starting at $40 and VIP packages are on sale now for this showcase competition of vintage and rare automobiles to be displayed on the famed Pinehurst Resort fairways. Log on to pinehurstconcours.com for details and ticketing information.
