Day 2 of the Parts Canada Superbike series event from Mosport took place today. Unfortunately, when we got to the track today we were greeted by rain, rain, and more rain. Although Mosport is a great racetrack, at the far end of the circuit in Turn 5, you go up this really steep hill and then it turns to the right and down another little hill. The way this was created was it was cut out of the side of a hill so when it rains there's a tremendous amount of debris and water that ends up on the racetrack. Same sort of thing at Turn 2 and Turn 4 too -- it's just the function of being an old-style road course.

And there are concrete patches in a lot of places, so safety took precedence today while there were open sessions so people could ride in the rain, there were no actual qualifying sessions. The times from yesterday stood, which maybe wasn't the greatest thing for me because I was really hoping to drop a couple seconds off my time today and move up the order a bit, but we'll take what we get.

So it ended up that I qualified 15th out of 19 riders based on yesterday's time. We'll put our head down in the Pro Sportbike race tomorrow and see what we can do.

The forecast for the rest of the weekend is 80 degrees and sunny, so we should have some fantastic race weather.

I'm also racing in the CBR125R Cup. I got in the afternoon practice today and was somewhere around 25th out of 29. The long back straight lends itself to me being eaten up by a bunch of 14, 15, and 16-year-old kids that all weigh like 100 pounds or less. With the 12 horsepower four-stroke 125cc engine, the CBRs are a lot of fun to ride. It's a small little motorcycle that we don't get in the United States and the Honda CBR125R Cup is designed for low budget racing that can introduce as many people as possible to motorcycle roadracing. It's a great program in Canada. If you're Canadian and reading this column, anyone can get a CBR125R and come racing. With one more round at Shubenacadie, we expect another 30 riders on the grid.

That was pretty much my day. The Competition Systems Kahuna Powersports Kawasaki team hung out and swapped a lot of stories. I got to visit with a lot of racers that I've made friends with over the last year or so, so from that aspect it was a good day, although I missed getting some valuable track time and I really need the track time to figure some things out at this racetrack.

But we'll be back at it tomorrow. I'll let you know at the end of the day how the racing goes. Check back here at SPEED.com and if you want to follow live timing and scoring, you can do that at cdnsuperbike.com.
