What were the ten best World Superbike contests of 2012? SPEED.com breaks it down:

10. Silverstone, Race 1 and Race 2

Silverstone provided a double shocker in iffy conditions. Teenaged Loris Baz struck up his first-career WSBK win and Sylvain Guintoli rounded out the day by winning in his debut weekend with PATA Ducati following his acrimonious split with the Effenbert-Liberty Racing team.

9. Aragon, Race 1

Title rivals Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri went at it at Aragon with eventual champ Biaggi winning out by 0.278 seconds. Meanwhile, third championship hopeful Tom Sykes had what seemed to be a certain third stolen away when Ayton Badovini crashed behind and collected him. Sykes ultimately lost the title by a single point (factoring in the tie-breaker).

8. Donington Park, Race 1

Marco Melandri delivered BMW its first-ever World Superbike win while teammate Leon Haslam provided the exclamation point with a BMW 1-2.

7. Nurburgring, Race 2

In a season defined by costly errors and bad luck on the part of the title hopefuls, the second leg at the Nurburgring stood out with title leader Biaggi crashing and then-runner-up Melandri later doing the same (while leading). Meanwhile, an upstart rookie named Chaz Davies managed the pressure just fine, thank you, running off to his first-career SBK victory.

6. Miller Motorsports Park, Race 2

Marco Melandri got his revenge on Jonathan Rea for their previous outing (detailed below) by passing him on the final lap for the USA win. Earlier, MMP master Carlos Checa crashed away a two-second lead.
